Dawu Digital Nomad Village
Applications closed October 31, 2024 — low rent but under-built infrastructure, kept here as an honest reference case.
The 2023 "International Digital Nomad Oasis, Dawu Township Pilot" renovated 6 vacant old houses across Dawu and Shangwu villages, offering domestic and foreign nomads rent as low as NT$3,000/month. But the renovation didn't include internet, air conditioning, or gas, leaving remote workers to solve connectivity and basic living gaps themselves. The two-year pilot wasn't renewed and applications formally closed October 31, 2024. We keep this listed because it makes a clear point: low rent isn't what keeps a coliving program alive — infrastructure is.
Highlights
- NT$3,000/month, among the lowest nomad coliving rent in Taiwan
- Renovated houses shipped without internet, air conditioning, or gas
- Two-year pilot wasn't renewed; applications now formally closed
- Kept as a counter-example: low rent isn't the same as sustainable
